Also called Paullinia Cupana Kunth, Guarana belongs to the Sapindaceae family. It is a climbing plant native to the Amazon basin and especially common in Brazil.
Guarana extract contains:
- Methylxanthines (found also in coffee, mate, cocoa and cola) among which Caffeine, Theophylline and Theobromine
- Polyphenols
- Saponins, mucilages, starch, tannins, lipids, oils and resins
